HEADS UP!This journal is NOT friends only. I am fundamentally a lurker, and it would be shameful of me to deny this same status to my fellow lurkaholics. HOWEVER, if you do friend me and I don't know who you are, it is highly advisable that you comment on this post to introduce yourself and tell me why you're friending me. A brief howdy-do will suffice. This is mostly just so I can satisfy to myself that you're not a bot or a wacko (and also because if you're an awesome person I might want to friend you back!). Commenting is not mandatory, but if you don't comment and I think your journal looks odd (particularly if it's brand new), I may end up blocking you. Circumvent the hassle and comment first.

Out of house into incredibly swank gold hotel acquired for us at huge discount by our incredibly posh and connected neighbors, the Symington's (of Symington Port). We are coming up in the world; we are movers and shakers! Not a bad improvement from ten years ago when there were five of us in a two bedroom walkup and I slept in the study.
Of course, posh hotel still charges through the nose for Internet, so am back at empty house to check mail one last time. Internet from here on out will be sporadic and brief, so I will see you all at the other end!

My bro is replaying FFVII on his PSP. His characters consist of:
Chernobyl
Mr T
Jugernaut (9-character limit)
Tallulah
Blue XIII
and Vincent will be Edward.
Yuffie and Cid TBA.
So sure, you've all played your games through once with the proper names, but don't pretend you never thought just to hell with it and named everyone Jesus. What're the best names you've ever given a character?
I know you named your Pokemon rival "Douchebag" at least once. Don't be ashamed, everyone's done it.

I just found shrimp in the fridge that were no longer recognizable as shrimp. They were gray and fuzzy and kind of molded together in a way that made me wonder if it was a shrink-wrapped fetus because I thought I'd seen that kind of thing before. It took some turning it this way and that and examining the underside to finally conclude that it must at one time have been shrimp.
I now feel much, much better about the things in the fridge at school that may have gone bad.

Haha so apparently my idea of what one does on the internet these days isn't what it used to be. LJ, babe, I don't mean ta hurt ya, really I don't. But sometimes a gal's gotta do what a gal's gotta do.
Yesterday my brother turned eighteen, and to celebrate his newfound freedom, he went and got himself a bitchin' new haircut, for which I ought to post pictures later. Suffice it to say it is long, and half of it is red. (Mom paid.) I wish I could say I had something equally rebellious done to match, but alas, having hair like an 80's rockstar is really not all that spectacular for me. It only looks like this anyway because it's styled. There aren't even any unnatural colors in it. I'm such a lame counterculture rolemodel.
Movers have come once and taken away all my brother's possessions, the good cooking utensils, my new china and also the Playstation 3. I am without Rock Band once more. :( I was getting really good at playing Coheed and Cambria, too. I suppose I will just have to beat FFVIII now. I mean I have only restarted that game about five times or something, seriously.
um what else. oh oh I am prescient! We came across what appeared to be bootleg volumes of the Portuguese version of Twilight at the market the other day. What do you logically suppose it would be called? Crepuscule, of course! This hideous title tickles me in my happy place.
meanwhile Edward James Olmos is my favorite person, so say we all.

urbanberber, THAT BITCH.
The rules are simple, if you're interested, leave a comment and I'll LJ stalk you to find THREE FANDOMS you apparently love. And then you answer these questions about them!
1) What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2) Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3) Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
4) Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5) Do you think that more people should get into this
( Doctor Who, Golden Sun, and FAKE )

The first five (5) people to respond to this post will get something made by me.
This offer does have some restrictions and limitations so please read carefully:
1. I make no guarantees that you will like what I make. What you get is what you get.
2. What I create will be just for you, with love, or at least with gusto.
3. It'll be done this year (2009).
4. I will not give you any clue what it's going to be. It (probably) will be something made in the real world and not something cyber. It may be weird or beautiful. It might or might not be edible. I may even create something totally unbelievable and surprise you at work!! Who knows?
5. I reserve the right to do something strange or quirky, but I promise not to embarrass you in public. I also reserve the right to do something fairly predictable and boring, but with, you know, thought and love.
6. In return, all you need to do is post this text into a note of your own and make 5 things for the first 5 to respond to your note.
IMPORTANT: This offer is null and void if I do not see you post your own note to pay this forward.

so hey gaiz whatup?
Been on kind of a crazy little domestic spree lately. I have always had a bit of a penchant for interior decorating/dinner parties/fashion magazines/etc that would send my more frightening batshit hardcore feminist sisters into bouts of socially structured gender-stereotype rage, and of course now that I'm on the verge of entering into the Real World I am spending less time thinking about how the hell I'm going to support myself in the middle of a recession and more time thinking about how cute my little apartment will be. The other week I spent far too long reading about the housing market in Manhattan and looking at the classifieds (and for the record, it is looking better now for the working college grad now than it has in a very long time, and would anyone be possibly willing to consider sharing an apartment with me in a year from now?). As my family sorts out what to get rid of for their move, I'm rescuing all the furniture I think I might like to have in the future. During exams I was hell-bent on making cakes. Today I bought china for eight place settings, complete with matching ramekins for each. Sometimes I think I get inordinately excited about living spaces and food, but I think it has something to do with the awesome circumstances in which I was raised. I mean, hey: my parents do this for a living, sort of.
Step the next: steal my mother's recipes. Uh, after I read that manuscript for my job, of course. Right.

GOOD: Exams are over! I am free! (except for packing, but. pft.)
BAD: I have no money and will be unable to hold a job this summer due to excessive traveling.
GOOD: Excessive traveling this summer. Across Europe. Again. =D The more I live in the US, the more I realize how amazingly lucky I was to grow up in Europe. And not just in Europe but all fucking over it. I love the US as well, but for completely different reasons, and it always kind of boggles me how the two continents that are considered so similar as the "Western civilizations" can be in many ways such utter opposites. My problems with the US are non-issues in Europe, and equally my problems with Europe don't exist here. It's kind of lovely how much they compliment each other.
GOOD: Next year I have an awesome sweet with an awesome awesome lady.
GOOD: Next year my brother will be 2 hours away, which is within harassable distance.
GOOD: I like making cakes. It is fun, even if they don't always turn out as anticipated. CAVEAT: I am not so sure about powdered sugar glazes. It is like this pink rock holding my cake hostage on the plate.
GOOD: Going home in a week! Siblings! Video games! Mom's cooking! Huge useless dogs!
UNKNOWN: My mother borrowed and watched my brother's copy of the BSG miniseries. No word yet on what she thought of it.

I wish to make an LJ post but I don't really have anything to say. I am sitting by myself eating cake and ice cream and watching whatever youtube videos I happen to come across. Perhaps this is a sign unto me. I am not quite sure what of. It is good cake, though. I mean, if I do say so.
I went with liopleurodon for Dreamwidth. I've set it to crossposting because I am lazy and because I don't have a separate purpose in mind for Dreamwidth yet? I don't know. I wouldn't bother with it at all if it didn't have crossposting, I don't think. I hate moving. (Oh irony.) I'm not thrilled with liopleurodon as a username either but I am too much of a tard to come up with anything cleverer. (Kind of bowled over with the hatred on battlemoose, btw, guys. Seriously, it is a moose! That one rides into battle! It probably has armor and shit! You could string your coat of arms from its antlers! Your enemies will piss themselves just from seeing you ride into formation! What is not epic about that?)
Anyway one day I am going to do something awesome with my life that will make you all bow down and worship me, but today is not that day.

We've been talking about language a lot in my Enchanted Imagination class. I like language! I'd like to share with you some of my favorite words! I like:
* subtle
* awkward, and
* vague
because they epitomize themselves! "Subtle" has that silent B that's totally being subtle in there, and "awkward" is just an awkward kind of word with those Ws around the K, seriously. And "vague" is really, without context, a uselessly vague sort of word, is it not? No, really,
urbanberber used to get English papers back with "vague" written all over 'em, which isn't really helpful at all. OH HAY THERE HAKUMEI DID I PUT YOU ON THE SPOT LOL 'SUP?
There's a word I really don't like, though. It's an ugly, aesthetically unpleasant word that has absolutely no bearing on the quite lovely thing it ostensibly represents. That word is "crepuscular". It sounds crass and vulgar; it leaves a foul taste in the mouth. Seriously, who decided that a word with essentially "crap" and "pus" in it was an accurate denomination for such a beautiful thing as the colors that melt together in the sky in the evening hour and--
oh no, wait. Wait, I've got it, guys.
( Yeah, I figured this one out. )

Dear Sister,
*BAM* MMMM WHATCHA SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY--
no, wait, let me try that again.
Dearest Annie,
Glad as I am that you're being so accommodating in my secret Overprotective Older Sister plot to monitor all your internet activities, I do not have a deeply overwhelming need to read these Pokemon fanfics you find so incredibly amusing, no matter how cracky. Especially not when they involve Barney.
I appreciate the sentiment, and truly, I am glad you are finding things appropriate for your age to amuse you. But really, I am much too busy reading gay porn fanfiction that is a bit too old for you in my own corner of the internet. I am sure you will understand, when you're my age, the desire for a more substantial plot and actual quality writing in the things you choose to read. Also Merlin and Arthur aren't going to shag themselves, you know.
Much amusement and love,
your Overprotective Older Sister
So, uh, I've gotten like no work done thanks to the fandom of a show I don't even really watch. How've you guys' weekends been? =D

Friday 12:31pm--Today I learned that we don't drink coffee when hungover. We really, really don't. My mouth still wishes I hadn't learned this the hard way.
Friday 2:52pm--I've discontinued my automatic payments on this account, so the paid account will expire in a week or so. I'll miss all my icons, but I really can't afford to be spending money on something so frivolous, especially when I hardly use it the way I used to. Layouts have gotten a lot less atrocious than they were when I started my paid account, anyway, so it won't be like going back to how it was. Still, fifteen icons? How will I survive? D8

So Star Ocean 4 looks like the worst game in the history of ever. I say this as someone who thoroughly enjoyed Star Ocean 3, which I will readily acknowledge was not the best RPG on the market in its day. But it had charm. Cracky, cracky charm, and Crispin Freeman, and an acknowledgment that the female lead is annoying as hell and therefore she disappears for the first 50% of the game. (Admittedly, they may have repeated this trick in SO4, I wouldn't actually know. But she does seem annoying as fuck. THEY ALWAYS ARE.)
But when I watch these opening clips of SO4 I simply find myself horribly disappointed and slightly offended that even the in-game graphics are clearly so very gorgeous when everything else is just plain awful. I will not say that I deluded myself into believing that video game voice acting was going anywhere fast,* especially not after the new Tales of Symphonia, but the entire problem is exacerbated when the script is that fucking bad. I don't need to list the problems--if you watch the MST you can see them for yourself, as obvious as hookers in Madrid--but suffice it to say that the entire thing made me want to beat my head against a wall, as that would probably be less painful. Especially in light of Square's recent claim to want to focus on developing games whose narratives surpass movie and novel narrative abilities (in delicious irony, note the image choice for that article). Dear Yamagishi, having your main character infodumping during your opening sequence without any reason for doing so whatsoever is NOT GOOD STORYTELLING. Please go read a good book and learn about a little something called "exposition" and why we don't overdo it.
Kids these days, I swear.
*This is a lie, I totally did. FFXII and Uncharted gave me a false sense of security, okay?
